It is not something about which I would boast, but I knew at the time that that would be but the first of many transformations. The desires and emotions which had led me at first to seek the method of my transformation, continued within me on my return to myself, admitting no respite. Outwardly, the world knew me as a respectable doctor, ageing with grace and sobriety, but on the inner side my undignified thirst grew. Thanks to my studies I was finally able to slake this spiritual thirst with a very material fluid in the form of my brew. From then on, donning the form of Edward Hyde as easily as a change of clothes, I could venture abroad and indulge my pleasures.
