Once, on waking, it had seemed to me that I had stood over my maid as she slept and considered all kinds of diabolical pains and pleasures. Somewhat disturbed by both the notion and the realism of the image, I went to her room to see for myself. Obviously, I had been in this room before when I had bought the house, but I always respected my servants' privacy and would never enter their room uninvited. On entering this time, the room was much as I remembered it, but I was shaken when I realised that I recognised the few extra touches that had been added by the room's inhabitant. I was as certain as I could be that I had not seen the occupied inside of this room before, yet the plants on the small table in front of the window, and the small figurine standing on the doily on the bedside table were expected items in their right places. I knew this room, but only from what I had thought was a dream. If I had been in my right mind, I would have forsworn the potion from that moment on, and never allowed Hyde to use my body again, but as any observer of this tale would guess, it had been some time since I could reliably have been described as being in my right mind.
