After the murder of Sir Danvers, the doctor entered into a deep depression, and did not leave his cabinet for some time, but thankfully it did not last long. Within days, he once again appeared at breakfast, neatly attired and looking as well as I had seen him in some time. I would like to say that from that day on he was his old self, but that would not be true. In fact, he was more outgoing and sociable than I had ever known him in my long years of service to him. He was personable and friendly and on many occasions had friends and colleagues to the house for dinner. As tonight, Mister Utterson was often among them. I did not know that this would be the final occasion, but it was pleasant for me to see how much it raised the doctor's already inflated spirits to see Doctor Lanyon also.
