For all that I felt somewhat placated by his easy manner, I knew that I could not be party to such a document, and told him so. I did, however, make him one offer, 'If you insist, as your lawyer, I will hold onto the will, once written, but I will have nothing to do with its creation and can only advise you against making such a potential mistake.'
He tried to convince me further, but there was no way I could assist my old friend in whatever downfall he had arranged for himself. For in commissioning such a will, I could only see that he was bent on self-destruction, and I did my best to convince him of this, but he wouldn't be swayed.
Our talk drifted back to other matters, but the energy had been sucked from the conversation and after a short time, the doctor left. I wondered then when I would see him next, and a small voice in my mind wondered if I would ever see him again.
