Sunday October 1st 1882 (1)

< Previous

It has often been my habit on Sundays to go walking with my kinsman, Mister Richard Enfield. He and I are very distantly related as cousins, and, while I cannot speak for him, I find something wonderfully solid and comforting in his presence. Over the years, we have said most of the words that could ever pass between two people, and so now we walk mostly in silence, talking with others that we meet, and enjoying the new things we learn about each other when gleaned from shared conversations. To others we may look as though we are bored with each other, but that is far from the truth. Our Sunday walks fortify me for the whole week and give me something to look forward to.
